Sidtjärn Activity Park contributes to the Boliden community

Our commitment to the communities where we operate is just as strong today as it has been throughout Boliden’s hundred-year history as a company. One example of this is Sidtjärn Activity Park, which provides opportunities for play and learning for children of all ages.

Since we are both able and committed to taking responsibility for the local community and the people who live here, initiatives like this are important to us at Boliden. The activity park in Sidtjärn is a way for us to show our gratitude to the place and contribute to the wellbeing of its people.

The activity park in Sidtjärn was opened in 2024, the same year Boliden celebrated its 100th anniversary as a company, and was a centennial gift to the community of Boliden. The park is primarily designed for children and aims to encourage activity and movement, featuring play areas, an obstacle course, and an open Wi-Fi zone. It also provides opportunities for learning in natural outdoor environments through a school forest with both outdoor classrooms and educational trails. The project also included the renovation of Margaretagården, a venue used by the local heritage association and other community groups in Boliden.

Boliden has always had a strong commitment to the local communities. One example is Sidtjärn Activity Park, which offers opportunities for play and learning for children of all ages in the community of Boliden.

Collaboration with local actors

The Sidtjärn activity park is part of Boliden’s “Social License to Operate” (SLO) – our commitment to being a responsible and considerate presence that contributes positively to the communities where we operate. This means fostering long-term relationships with local residents, built on openness and transparency. The park was created together with the community and planned in close cooperation with local partners and Skellefteå Municipality.

To be able to operate, we need to earn trust and contribute to local community development – going beyond what is required by laws and regulations. The Sidtjärn activity park is a good example of how we can make a positive difference, and hopefully it will make Boliden an even safer and more attractive place to live.

Responsible restoration and management of closed mines are also essential to achieving our ambitious environmental goals. The successful remediation of the closed Rävlidmyr mine demonstrates how industrial activity can be combined with strong environmental responsibility.

Unique reclamation project completed

We have now demolished our dam on the Skellefte River, at the closed Långdal mine. We have carried out the project with the least possible impact on the environment, not only in the local area, but also by reusing and recycling of sheet pilings. We have also minimized the project's carbon dioxide emissions by using fossil-free fuels.
