Boliden’s transformation continues: Introducing Low-Carbon Lead & Recycled Lead

Boliden introduced two additions to the company’s Green Transition Metals portfolio today — Low-Carbon Lead and Recycled Lead. These additions reinforce Boliden's commitment to responsible metal production and enhance the company’s Green Transition Metals portfolio.

Boliden's new products are the latest example of the company leading the industry's transformation, with the objective of securing a more sustainable future for generations to come.

Sven Hjelmstedt, Director Sales at Boliden, emphasizes: "Our commitment to sustainability enables Boliden and our clients to create products with noticeably lower carbon footprints. We stand by our clients, aiding them in mitigating Scope 3 emissions and encouraging enhanced environmental performance in their industries.”

Sourced from the company’s own mines, the Low-Carbon Lead maintains a carbon footprint below 1 kg CO₂/kg Pb, in contrast to the average emissions from Europe and North America, which have an emission rate of 1.87 kg CO₂/kg Pb.

With a carbon footprint under 1 kg CO₂/kg Pb, Recycled Lead establishes a new standard for sustainable lead production, sourced entirely from recycled materials.

“Crafted entirely from recycled materials in our recycling facility in Bergsöe Sweden, Boliden’s Recycled Lead contributes to a sustainable resource loop, aligning seamlessly with our circular economy principles. In addition to that, our new desulfurization plant in Bergsöe indicates an even lower carbon footprint for our recycled product,” Sven Hjelmstedt concludes.
