Step behind the scenes of Gruvan with Stefan

Stefan has worked at Boliden since 2014, and this autumn he stepped into the spotlight as one of the profiles in the TV series Gruvan. Through the series, he hopes more people will recognize the advanced technology and expertise required to run a modern mine.

Stefan started as a temporary employee, became permanent in 2017, and has worked as a loader since 2020.

"I operate hydraulic excavators and wheel loaders to move rock. I’m certified to work in our AHS area and serve as an instructor for hydraulic excavators and wheel loaders on our shift team," says Stefan.

Participation was no coincidence

"An employee at the production company contacted me after receiving many tips from my colleagues that I would be a good fit for the series."

When filming began, everyday life changed. The camera crew followed Stefan during his shifts and documented everything.

"It was great fun! Everyone from the production company was not only professional but also very nice. We had a really good time together! At first, it almost felt like I was a tourist guide, but after a few days, it was like I had two new colleagues in the shift team."

A new image of the mining industry

Stefan hopes that the series Gruvan will give viewers a new image of the mining industry.

"I hope that people who are unfamiliar with our business will get a greater understanding of how important it is, not only for Sweden's economy but also globally. I want to break down conceptions about what it's like to work in a mine and show how modern and high-tech our workplace really is," he says.

Reflecting the reality of the mine is no easy task, but Stefan thinks the series did a good job:

"Overall, they have done very well. It is difficult to convey such a complex business in a few episodes, but I think the production company has done a fantastic job of bringing out the most important aspects without getting bogged down in too many details."

Proud to be part of Boliden

What makes Stefan most proud of working at Boliden?
"That Boliden always strives to be at the forefront and dares to try new technologies. Even if not everything is a success, they dare to try, and I think that's courageous."

His advice to anyone thinking about starting a career in mining is simple:
"Do it! It's a whole new world you never knew existed, and you won't regret it."

Watch Gruvan on TV3 and Viaplay to follow Stefan and his colleagues in the mine.

Behind the scenes at Boliden Bergsöe: “you truly feel like you’re making a difference every day”

At what is perhaps Boliden’s most low-profile Swedish facility, a little-known operation is underway. But there’s nothing secretive about it — quite the opposite: at Boliden Bergsöe, everyday lead batteries are recycled. It’s a unique operation, as they are the only ones doing this in the Nordics. “Having sustainability as a guiding principle makes my job meaningful,” says Environmental and Quality Manager Mårten Strömberg.

Boliden's Jonas Lindgren has experience in both, as well as many other HR-related roles along the way. "The most enjoyable part is helping the organization achieve its goals and getting everyone to work in the same direction," he says.
