From the enrichment plant to the TV screen –
meet Emil in Aitik
Emil works as a Mineral Processing Generalist at the enrichment plant in Aitik. In the TV series Gruvan (The Mine), viewers have been able to follow him and his colleagues in their everyday lives and gain an insight into a profession that is much more varied than many people might think. Here, Emil talks about how he feels about the series, why he is proud of his job, and why the mining industry is worth discovering.
Emil has worked at Boliden for three years and works as a process operator at the enrichment plant.
Showcasing the range of the mining industry
One of Emil's hopes for the series is that more people will become aware of the opportunities in the mining industry, and at Boliden. Emil believes that Gruvan provides valuable insight into how the work functions in practice and how many different roles there are within the industry.
"I hope viewers see that there are many different jobs within the mine. It's not just one profession, but a multitude of roles that are both varied and challenging," he says.
Pride in development and learning
What makes Emil most proud of working at Boliden is the opportunity for development.
"There is a lot to learn, and I am really encouraged to develop. There are many training courses available, and if you want to change jobs within the group, there are plenty of interesting roles, and many competent colleagues to get to know," he says.
Advice for those curious about a career in mining
Emil has clear advice for anyone considering applying for a job in the mining industry:
"Apply for the job even if you don't think you're qualified. Let the recruiter decide if you're the right person. Many people learn the job on-site or during a trial period, which is not as common in other industries today."
Through Gruvan, Emil and his colleagues have shown that the mining industry is not just about machines and heavy lifting, it's also about development, collaboration and future opportunities.
The series Gruvan is available to watch on TV3 and Viaplay.
