From haul truck to TV screen: Meet Andrea in Aitik
Andrea has worked as a machine operator in Aitik for almost four years and is one of the people featured in the TV series Gruvan (The Mine) which shows how modern mining is carried out safely and responsibly. In this article, she talks about her job, the filming experience, and why she is proud to work at Boliden.
Andrea has been working at Boliden since January 2022.
– My job is to transport ore and waste rock from the mine to the crusher or the dump. Sometimes I also fill in as a dump operator and support loader operator, she says.
A unique insight into everyday life in the mine
When the camera crew came to Aitik, everyday life changed a little.
– It was an amazing experience! I think the series reflects reality well. It shows both the work and everyday life for those of us who work here. It may look a little more dramatic on TV because of the music and the suspense, but I thought they did a great job.
Breaking down prejudices and showing diversity
Andrea hopes that the series will give viewers a new image of the mining industry.
– I hope that viewers will get a better picture of how exciting, safe, and fun mining is. There are a lot of prejudices out there, so it feels good that we got to show what we do and that it's not just men who work in the mine.
Focus on pride and safety
What makes Andrea most proud of her work?
– Being able to showcase a large industry that puts safety first. Being part of a team that works to ensure that everyone comes home unharmed every day is important.
For anyone interested in a career in the mining industry, Andrea's advice is:
– Be brave! It's a job with lots of opportunities for development, and there's definitely a job here that's right for you.
The series Gruvan is available to watch on TV3 and Viaplay.
