Roasting
At the first stage of the production process, the zinc concentrate is fed into two parallel fluid bed roasters, where the concentrate is roasted at a temperature of 950 degrees Celsius.
The sulphur dioxide gas produced during the roasting is cooled and the heat it contains is recovered. Pure mercury is separated from the gas and processed into a saleable product. The sulphur dioxide in the gas is used for the manufacture of sulphuric acid.
