Economic responsibility

The locations of Boliden’s operations are determined by the localisation of mineral resources and the ability to explore and expand operations. The roots of the company’s operations often lie centuries in the past and the ability to grow the business is dependent of the trust of the surrounding communities and the value that Boliden generates for them.

Boliden operates in a cyclic and capital-intensive industry in which long-term value creation is achieved through improvements in productivity, strict cost control and investments in profitable new production. Stable processes and financial stability are prerequisites of sustainable growth and long-term value creation.

A dominant employer

Boliden is the dominant employer in many of the communities in which it operates, which means that we have a relatively substantial indirect impact on local employment levels and local trade and industry in the form of increased purchasing power and an increased basis for important societal services.
