A coating of zinc on steel is enough to fight rust for over 50 years. More than half of the zinc used globally goes to galvanizing - protection of steel against corrosion. So zinc helps to preserve the world's assets and furthers the goal of sustainable development.
After iron, aluminium and copper, zinc is the fourth most used metal in the world. Zinc is used, among other things, in the construction industry and the auto and transport industry where long useful life is an important requirement.
Zinc is also used in brass (an alloy of copper and zinc), batteries, and die-casting.
