Boliden invests 17 MSEK in research

Boliden has signed a new five-year R&D contract with Luleå University of Technology worth 17 MSEK. The funds are aimed at research and education in the field of Process metallurgy, including the extraction and recycling of base metals.

"This injection of funds is very inspiring and gives us an opportunity to strengthen our competence in this field," says Bo Björkman, Professor of Process Metallurgy at LTU.

The cooperation between LTU and Boliden started in the early 1980s. At the beginning of this century Boliden intensified its engagement, and as part of this Theo Lehner from Boliden was appointed adjunct professor at LTU´s division of Process metallurgy.

"Our goal is to secure the supply of metallurgists and to ensure the industry's need for research and education. This five-year period, we focus on the highly topical and strategically important area of recycling," says Svante Nilsson, Director Group Strategic Projects, Boliden.
