Bergsöe

The Bergsöe lead smelter is one of Europe’s largest recycler of used lead batteries, and the Nordic’s only secondary smelter for lead. The main products are pure lead and customised alloys.

Bergsöe contributes in many ways to a viable ecocycle by annually extract lead from approximately four million scrap car batteries. Also, annually the plant takes delivery of about 70,000 tonnes of used lead batteries from all over the Nordic region.

Approximately 60 per cent of the smelter’s lead production is sold to the battery industry in Europe, with the remainder used in other applications. In addition, waste heat from the processes heats parts of the nearest town’s heating network.

Bergsöe has approximately 76 employees.
