Group Logistics

Group Logistics operates on the behalf of the Boliden Group and procures all its transportation needs. The operations at Boliden sites generate a need for various kinds of transportation which Group Logistics source and contract. 

Within site and road specials

Within our production sites, there is a large need for within site transportation. In particular at our mines where huge amounts of ore and rock is loaded and transported to crushers and concentrators. At all sites transportation is related to handling of metal, bi-products, raw material, slag and residues etcetera. The road special function  is handling road transports that need specially constructed vehicles for transports as for example of acid, chemicals, limestone, ores and concentrates.

Road and rail

A large amount of the metal from our smelters as well as raw material from our mines are transported by truck or train. Our truck transports are normally based on the rule that the load capacity of every truck is fully utilized. Boliden also has its own controlled train systems operating from mines to ports or directly to smelters and from smelter to customers or distribution hubs.

Sea and port

Boliden use sea transportation for metal, by-products and raw material. Different types of vessels are used, such as bulk carriers, general cargo vessels, side-door/RoRo vessels as well as chemical tankers. At the sites where we do not have our own port we make agreements with commercial ports for storing and handling of our material.
