Boliden's long-term growth depends on its mineral resources and ore reserves - the Group's primary assets- growing faster than ore production. Exploration takes a long time and requires good advance planning. In a best-case scenario the lead time from the start of the initial survey work to the launch of a new mine is between five and ten years.
From exploration to production - Long term strategy
Boliden's impact and responsibility
Exploration means to identify, prioritize and test geological and geophysical fields in order to find new mineral resources. Exploration activities entail a certain amount of intervention in and impact on the environment in the form of, for example, drilling and increased transportation activity in the area. Interaction and cooperation with those affected is therefore of the utmost importance for Boliden.
Boliden takes responsibility of minimising the risks of disruption that can arise, by using methods and techniques that increase the efficiency and precision while simultaneously reducing the environmental impact.
