Aitik
Aitik's mineral resources increased by 46 million tonnes in 2011, while its mineral reserves decreased by 23 million tonnes. 31.5 million tonnes of ore were, however, also mined during that period and the difference is due to the fact that the higher prices enabled additional tonnage to be added to the mineral reserve. The increase in mineral resources is due to drilling work during the year. This drilling work was largely carried out in Aitik Östra, which is located, at its closest point, 300 m to the north east of Aitik's open-pit mine. Drilling work is continuing in this area. Production will, at the currently planned rates, continue until 2030.
Garpenberg
Garpenberg's mineral resources increased by 1.8 million tonnes in 2011, while its mineral reserve decreased by 1.5 million tonnes − a figure that largely corresponds to the amount mined. Drilling towards the Kaspersbo mineralisation has yielded very good results. Investigations are still in progress and will be evaluated during 2012. Work on expanding the mine's production capacity is proceeding and, if the expansion is included, production will, at currently planned rates, continue until 2031.
The Boliden Area
The mineral reserve in the Boliden Area increased by 1.1 million tonnes, or 10 per cent, while the mineral resources increased by 4.6 million tonnes, or 28 per cent. The increases are primarily attributable to exploration successes at Renström and Kristineberg. Production will, at currently planned rates, continue until 2021.
Tara
Exploration in and around the mine enabled mineral resources to be added and upgraded to mineral reserves. These additions were, however, unable to compensate for the amount of ore mined during the year and overall, both the mineral reserve and the mineral resources at Tara decreased in 2011. Production will, at currently planned rates, continue until 2020.
