Securing tomorrows skill pool

Our employees’ skills and proficiencies are the prerequisites for our ability to achieve our goals. Retaining competent and experienced employees and, at the same time, strengthening the organisation through the addition of new personnel, is an important balancing act.

Challenging work securing tomorrow’s skill pool

Managing and developing the business operations requires a skilled and committed workforce. Boliden is, however, now facing a generation shift in its workforce. Our mines and smelters largely operate in low population density areas and a great deal of advance planning is, therefore, required when it comes to supplying the skill pool. It often also involves recruiting certain professional groups in the teeth of stiff competition because the skills in question are already in short supply, for example mine engineers, geologists, geophysicists and process engineers.

Fundamental to Boliden’s work to secure tomorrow’s skill pool is therefore to create a business characterised by professionalism and whose fundamental components are good developmental potential, good leadership, a safe work environment and where everyone conducts themselves in line with our shared values.

Our recruitment work

An important prerequisite for our ability to strengthen our organisation with the right skills is to establish Boliden as an attractive employer, and show potential employees that we can offer them real potential for an interesting future career.

Engaged meetings that build relationships

In order to help boost interest in the metals industry and to build relationships with potential employees Boliden cooperates with a large number of schools, colleges of further education and universities. We attend numerous labour market days and other activities organised by educational facilities. This gives us recurring opportunities to forge links with these groups of students and, at the same time, to generate interest in the company and our operations. The cooperation takes place in the countries where we operate as well as activities on the international arena in order to reach potential employees with the core competencies that we need.

Our ambition is also that already at a young age encourage the interest in scientific subjects and a number of partnerships have therefore been established with schools on compulsory level.
